Postgraduate studies in the School of Mathematical Sciences
The School of Mathematical Science at the University of Adelaide
has a long history of achievement in research and postgraduate
education. Currently the School has over 40 postgraduate students
working in a stimulating and supportive environment. Facilities and
resources available include conference travel, opportunity to
participate in the teaching program and access to excellent computing
facilities. Over many years the University of Adelaide has ranked in
the top two or three Australian Universities for PhD completions in
Mathematics and Statistics, and our graduates are highly sought after.
The University is ideally located adjacent to the city of Adelaide and
provides an excellent research environment. The University
consistently rates near the top in comparative rankings of research
quality and strength.

Where you need to look for further information depends on whether you are a domestic or international student.
Domestic students should see the go to
Postgraduate Publications
and download the prospectus.
International students should make application through the

in the section above, but the application procedures and available scholarships are
different. You should go to
International Publications
and download the prospectus.

source for postgraduate students.
Australian Mathematical Society and Anziam membership:
Of some interest to graduate students might be the fact that
the first years' membership of the Australian Mathematical Society and ANZIAM is
FREE

Mathematical Computing Resources:
This is a page of resources for
various things technical and computing. It comprises links to
various online tutorials and manuals for Unix operating systems, Latex
document preparation system and C, Perl and Fortran programming
languages.
The Student Wiki:
The postgraduate students have their own
wiki.
- Anyone can read this, but to contribute to it, you must be one
of the School's postgraduates, and have a password
allocated.

Travel for business: the first step
Before a postgraduate goes on any trip associated with university business (conference,
workshop, etc), you need to fill in some paperwork, get approvals, etc.
There are limits on the amount of monetary support available to postgraduates for business
travel. The amount is fixed over your candidature, but only a certain portion is available
before your candidature is confirmed, following your major review.
If you wish to use any of your travel allowance, you must NOT make any bookings before
getting approval from your supervisors and the administrators. The first thing you need do is
get a form signed by your supervisor giving approval for the travel. Run off a copy of the
form pg_travel.pdf, and get it signed BEFORE approaching the adminstrators for bookings etc.
Having your supervisor's approval does not mean you can go ahead and book your own tickets.
(If you do that, you run the risk of having to pay your own way!)
Travel Insurance: Information about the Universities
travel insurance for postgraduate students is available from the Postgraduate Student
Association.
