2008-04-18 12:32:12Open Day Innovation Fund SuccessCongratulations to Associate Professor Matt Roughan, Mr David Butler and Mr Jono Tuke who have been awarded $2000 from the Open Day Innovation Fund for their project "Tactile Mathematics".
2008-04-18 12:30:14University Implementation Grant for Learning and Teaching EnhancementsCongratulations to Dr Adrian Koerber and Dr Paul McCann who have been successful in securing $40,000 funding from the University Implementation Grant for Learning and Teaching Enhancements. Their proposal "An enhanced implementation of Maple T.A. in mathematics service courses" will expand the use of Maple TA, and online assessment, further into the School large second year service courses.
2008-04-13 00:00:00Stoneham PrizeThe inaugural Stoneham Prize, awarded for the best poster by a graduate student in the first two years of their candidature, was awarded on the 4th of April. The winner was Ric Green, for his poster "What is Geometry?". Two Viewers' Choice prizes were also awarded to Ray Vozzo for his poster "The 7 Bridges of Koenigsberg - The 1st Theorem in Topology" and David Butler for his poster "The Queen of Hearts Plays Noughts and Crosses".
2008-03-11 10:46:35Success in Learning and Teaching GrantsThe School of Mathematical Sciences has been awarded two Faculty L&T awards. Congratulations to Dr David Green for his successful grant "One Simulation Modelling Instruction Module" and to Drs Adrian Koerber, Paul McCann and Jim Denier for their successful grant "Graphics Calculators and beyond".
2008-01-22 00:04:26Potts Medal WinnerProfessor Charles Pearce, the Elder Profesor of Mathematics, was awarded the Ren Potts Medal by the Australian Society for Operations Research at its annual meeting in December. This is a national award for outstanding contributions to Operations Research in Australia.
2008-01-02 15:31:39Recent PhD'sAt the December graduation ceremony Mr Raymond Kennington was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy for his thesis entitled "Random allocations: new and extended models and techniques with applications and numerics". Congratulations to Ray and his supervisor, Professor Charles Pearce.
2007-12-10 00:00:00School to move to new accommodationIn anticipation of the demolition of the existing Mathematics building, the School of Mathematical Sciences will be moving to new temporary accommodation. As from 10th December 2007 we can be found on level 3 (School Office) and 4 of 10 Pulteney Street.
2007-12-09 22:39:27School of Mathematical Sciences has a new home.From the 10th of December the School of Mathematical Sciences will be located on levels 3 and 4 of 10 Pulteney Street. The School office is located on level 3 and is open from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
2007-11-12 10:44:32Mathematics Building to be demolishedThe existing mathematics building will be demolished to make way for a new 8-storey, 6-star building. The new building, which is expected to be completed for the start of semester 1, 2010, will house the Schools of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematical Sciences. The demolition will begin on 10th December 2007. See the Building Life Impact web-site for more details.

2007-10-29 22:32:21New Professor of Statistical BioinformaticsAssociate Professor Patty Solomon will take up the Chair of Statistical Bioinformatics within the School of Mathematical Sciences effective from 29th of October, 2007.

2007-03-05 20:12:19Dr Yvonne Stokes wins Michell MedalDr Yvonne Stokes (Applied Mathematics) was awarded the 2007 J.H. Michell Medal of ANZIAM. The award is made annually to an outstanding new researcher, one who is in the first ten years of their research career. Read Yvonne's citation here.
